Bright and early on Sunday morning our dedicated walkers came out in full force to help celebrate the 22nd Annual Walk-Along for Lupus! Although the day was a chilly one, everyone arrived with smiles on their faces, ready to walk and donate to help those who live with lupus in Nassau, Suffolk and Queens.
Rocky from WBAB along with long-time volunteer Andrew Alderman, started the morning off with some fun calisthenics to get everyone warmed up and ready to go. The Freeport Marching Band and Color Guard then performed for the enthusiastic crowd and had everyone dancing along to the beat of their drums.
Board Members, Steven Alberti, Mark Salsberg and David Brod joined our Executive Director Patricia D`Accolti on stage to say thank you to some of our top teams, schools and sponsors for making the walk a day of fun and togetherness.
Angela Marie Morrison, the winner of our recent Ambalu Jewelry contest then spoke about her life with lupus and why being involved with our organization is important to her and to all of those living with lupus. She spoke eloquently about what the disease has done to her life, and how with the help of her family and friends she has fought back against lupus.
The walk began soon after with the help of the Freeport Marching Band and volunteers students from a local Key Club, cheering everyone on as they started. The give-a-ways from our generous sponsors were fabulous and everyone enjoyed Carol the Clown, the USA Skateasauras and the children loved having their face painted by volunteers from Prestige NY. Afterwards everyone sat and enjoyed their lunch in the sun, listening to the great music provided by the Roadhouse Band.
Overall, it was a wonderful day and the Board and Staff of the Lupus Alliance of LIQ cannot thank everyone who was involved enough for their support and dedication. We are humbled by the show of emotion, kindness and camaraderie that we see every year at the walk. A mere thank you from us will never be enough to express how we feel about everyone who donates, attends, volunteers and supports the Walk-Along for Lupus every year.
We are thrilled and proud to welcome Bethpage Federal Credit Union into the Lupus Alliance of LIQ family. Not only have they become a Platinum Sponsor of the Walk-Along for Lupus, but they also generously provided us with volunteers from their branch who worked the tables at registration and also helped process the funds collected that day.
Jackie Morrell and Kevin McKenna along with their staff at BFCU have worked with us closely over the last few months in preparation for the upcoming walk. BFCU gave us the opportunity to reach all of their members by displaying our Walk-Along for Lupus brochures to spread awareness about the event. We look forward to working with the BFCU family for many years to come.
Collecting donations for the walk does not stop on walk day.
Walkers can still send out email blasts to friends and family asking for donations to help us help those with lupus.
The Walk-Along for Lupus is our premiere event in more ways than one. Besides, being our largest event of the year, it is also the event that brings in the money that helps us continue to provide support services for those living with lupus in Nassau, Suffolk and Queens.
Please continue to collect donations and remember the cut off date to earn a gift card inst until November 20th! All donations collected up to that point can help you get a great thank you present from us!
