What is the Walk-Along for Lupus like? We aim to make your experience at the Walk-Along for Lupus as safe and as fun as possible. The festive, community atmosphere to raise as much money as possible to support programs, services and research for the treatment, cause and cure for Lupus brings everyone together in a way that many walks do not. We have breakfast, lunch, give-a-ways from our sponsors, fun for the kids, live music, picnic tables and more. Every year more walkers stay and enjoy the day with their family and friends, throwing a football around, meeting new friends or dancing to the music.

Is there a registration fee? There is no registration fee to participate in the Walk-Along for Lupus, however there is a minimum donation of $20 required to receive a free registration gift, breakfast and lunch.

I’m walking and my family will join me. Should they register for the Walk-Along for Lupus?

Yes. All walkers, regardless of age, must register to participate. This allows each participant to qualify for fundraising incentives, including the Walk-Along for Lupus T-Shirt, ($50 minimum required).

Can my child participate in the Walk-Along for Lupus? Yes – The Walk-Along for Lupus is a family event for all ages!

I will be out of town during the Walk-Along for Lupus, can I still participate as a Virtual Walker? Yes. You do not have to physically be at the walk event to participate. Virtual Walkers can register as an individual or team participant. Virtual Walkers will receive the same benefits and prizes as event participants. Click here to learn more about Virtual Walkers.

Can I register for the Walk-Along for Lupus the day of the event? Yes. While it is recommended that you pre-register, we do offer registration the day of the walk. When you arrive at the walk site, proceed to the ORANGE TABLES at the registration tent. If you wish to register online, please click here.

Is there a minimum fundraising requirement? No, anyone can participate, but a minimum of $20 per walker is required to receive a free registration gift, breakfast and lunch, $50 pp to receive a Walk-Along for Lupus T-Shirt and $500 or more per walker to receive a Visa gift card. Where do I send my donations? Please mail all donations to The Lupus Alliance of LIQ, 3366 Park Place, Suite 212, Wantagh NY, 11793. (Please note our new address!) Be sure to include your name, team name, phone number and email with your checks. Please do not send cash.

Who do I make checks payable to? The Lupus Alliance of LIQ

What if my company wants to match my donation? Many companies have matching gift and volunteer incentive programs to maximize their financial contributions to non-profit organizations. This means they will match their employees’ donations to non-profits, increasing your fundraising total. Check for eligibility by speaking to your employer. If there are forms needed to be completed by us, be sure to let us know or bring them with you on walk day.

Are donations tax deductible and how do I get a receipt? Yes. All donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. Your cleared check or credit card transaction serves as a receipt. Donations of $250 or more will receive an acknowledgement letter by the end of 2016, as per IRS regulations.

If someone who donates to me would like a receipt how do I do that? Click here to download a receipt you can give to your donors if they ask.

 In what ways will I be rewarded for my fundraising for the Walk-Along for Lupus? There are many perks that come with fundraising. Click here to read about our walk incentives.

What do I do if I experience issues with the Firstgiving walk website? If you are using Internet Explorer 11, some aspects of firstgiving don’t always work properly. Mozilla FireFox and Google Chrome are two free, trusted browsers that fully support firstgiving and rarely have any operating issues. If you continue to experience issues, please contact us at 516-783-3370 or call Firstgiving directly at 877.365.2949.

Will I receive information and a donation envelope in the mail? We only send donation registration brochures to previous walkers and members. If you would like a donor registration brochure mailed to you, please call us at 516-783-3370. Otherwise, you can download and print the donor registration form by clicking here.

We strongly recommend registering online prior to the event. Online registration allows you to raise money from friends online, and allows you to show off your great fundraising efforts for everyone to see. As of this year, those who do not register online, although their money will be added to our totals, will not be added by us to the online site. Only those who register themselves online will be seen on the walk website.

What do we do if it is inclement weather? The Walk-Along for Lupus is rain or shine! Please check weather reports and come prepared.

How many miles is the walk? 3.1 miles.

Will lunch be served? Yes, the Walk-Along for Lupus provides breakfast and lunch. You are also welcome to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the live music and activities and make it a fun family day.

What are the benefits of starting a team? Participating in the Walk-Along for Lupus is more fun when you are part of a team. It’s a little known fact that team members raise more money than individuals. it is also just fun to spend the day with friends, co-workers or family!

Can donations be made to the Team? Yes. You can click on teams, and then on the team page click on donate to team, and your donation will be credited to that team!

How many people can I have on my team? Teams must consist of four or more members in order to receive team recognition incentives. There is no limit to how many team members you can have; the more, the merrier!

I’d like to join an existing team, what should I do? Go to www.firstgiving.com/lupusliqueens, click teams, and then pick a team to join. If you know who is on the team, then click on their name and then click on join my team.

Can my team all register under one form? No, all walkers must have their own donor registration form.
